It’s one of the most financially precarious times in a student’s life, spending your years underneath a pile of endless books. Those formative years where you commit to your goals can be an incredibly rewarding but also have its setbacks like eating beans on toast or canned spaghetti for weeks on end. Many students try to salvage their finances by taking on a part-time job while others do so with massive but rewarding risks to clean up their bottom line. Through all of that, technology can offer a helping hand by acting like a band-aid for your bank account.
So, we sought out some of the most helpful apps that we thought could be of assistance. Take, for example, Monzo, which is a nifty app that acts like a prepaid credit card and allows you to keep a close eye on your everyday spending, enabling you to see what your daily, weekly and monthly outgoings look like. It will send you a notification every time you spend as well as if you are going over a set budget.
Think about how many awkward times, especially when you’re out with friends when it comes time to pay the food bill or split a cab. You know, the point where you take out your calculators to figure out who owes what. Well, there are now apps like Payfriendz that make it that much easier. Alongside other apps like Pingit, these apps allow you to send someone cash or request politely with a click of a button.
Which leads into another convenient area, finding that all-important ATM or automatic cash machine. And when you do eventually find it, you have to pay up to 3£ (or $4.26) to get money out. Based on geolocation, ATM Hunters allows you to source all the ATMs closest to you, even telling you which ones charge and which ones don’t. It also allows you to see which ones are connected to your bank account as well. Yeah, we thought you might like that.
We saved the best for last, the mySupermarket app is, well, super handy as it allows you to see which items you need are cheapest by comparison. So, let’s say you’re out in a supermarket and you have a wish list of items, this app will tell you who has the cheapest options or who has a special offer at that moment. It has a barcode scan feature, so you just walk up, scan with your app and presto, it’s like your pocket is begging you to keep the change in there.
As you can see, there are many ways that life doesn’t have to be so fraught with hardship, especially through some of the best years of your life. Keep a close eye on the App Store on both Android and the iOS to see what emerges in the future. And if none of those apps are for you, well, get used to the smell of tasty frozen pizzas.
